Race Recap

This past Saturday I ran the Frederick Half Marathon. This year the half marathon was the main event, which I was really excited about. I've only ever run in a half marathon that also features a full marathon. Whenever I go to the expo to pick up my packet, I feel like I'm "only doing the half", but this year we were the 'big dogs'! They also changed the course a bit and I really liked it. A majority of the course was shaded and it's a very scenic and quaint area.

I had 2 goals for the race:
1. To not get sick afterwards
2. To come in under 2 hrs

Unfortunately, I only accomplished one of these goals.

Goal#1(TMI alert)
To not get sick after the race. I have been know to get the 'running trots' and they are especially severe after I finish a race. I've been trying to pinpoint triggers and have found that dairy is definitely one of them. The whole week leading up to this particular race, I cut out dairy. Garlic is another, so I try to shy away from Italian food the night before a race.

Race Meals for Frederick:
*Race dinner was stir-fry veggies and chicken over a heap of brown rice.
*Race Breakfast was Old Fashioned Oats, Brown Sugar, Peanut Butter and frozen peaches, microwaved for 3 minutes. I also had half a cup of coffee and some Vita-CoCo Coconut Water.
*Post Race was a Luna Bar

I have found the winning combination! I didn't get sick at all. Not during or after the race. Not even a delayed 'oh god I have to go' feeling. Wooooo!

Goal#2
Unfortunately, I came in just shy of my goal time at 2:02. I absolutely know that I can beat 2 hrs. I know I have it in me. I think I was so preoccupied with the fear of getting sick that I ran the race instead of racing it. I felt some mind cramping in my lower abdomen at mile 9 and decided to cut back my pace. I walked through a few water stations and I know that these two factors added the two minutes to my final race time.

All in all, I really enjoyed the race. I hope to do it again next year and set a PR...I also hope to get a new running outfit and to learn a new pose other than the thumbs up.

Todays breakfast was Overnight Oats.
*Old Fashioned Oats
*Almond Milk
*Almond Butter
*Pumpkin Pie Spice (McCormick)
*Two scoops of Mango Chobani Yogurt
*Chia Seeds
